Money Hungry- Summer Reading Book

I know what you’re thinking… a summer reading book? How boring! Most people just pick any book and try to get it over with or don’t even bother reading it or finishing it. However, this not one of those ordinary summer reading books; well at least not to me. One of the books I chose to read this summer is “Money Hungry” by Sharon G. Flake. It only has a few chapters to it, but it was a great book. Although, what really fascinated me was the main character Raspberry Hill. Raspberry loves money and would do anything to gain more and more of it. The only problem is no one understands why, especially her friends which leads to Raspberry losing them along the way.

The thing is Raspberry lives alone with her mom and they have struggled to keep their lives together, which led to a while being homeless. After she and her mom got off the streets Raspberry never wanted to go back to that and made sure they would have enough money if this ever happened again; which it did. Raspberry fascinated and inspired me in this story because to take on all that work, like cleaning people’s houses and selling stuff just so that you wouldn’t land on the streets again is a lot for a girl her age.

Also, it showed me how strong and brave she was because her mom never noticed how much being homeless affected her and the way she sees life. From then on she’s just been thinking about getting money so she wouldn’t have to go through that torture again. Even though being homeless isn’t the best thing for anyone it was better that she had friends and a mom to help her through the hard times which I noticed was the theme. Money can solve most things, but not everything. It’s the people you love in your life that make all scenarios better.
